Little Bats Educational Trail
A path to the mine workings where colonies of seven thousand bats live.
What awaits you here
Above the village of Rákoš, right behind the forester's lodge, the Little Bats Educational Trail begins with an entrance gate made of acacia wood. It follows the yellow-marked hiking trail from Rákoš to the hill of Železník. Past several stops with information panels, it leads you to secured mine workings that shelter 7-thousand-strong colonies of rare bats in their depths!
From September until mid-November (or the arrival of the first frosts) they hunt intensively for food and build up fat reserves, which enable them to survive the winter.
You can spot them here shortly after dusk, on spring and autumn evenings, when they fly out of the mines.
