A place teeming with ground squirrels. The European ground squirrel is a medium-sized rodent, about 20 cm long, and a protected species in Slovakia. You can see it from March to September, and it is most active in sunny weather. This charming furry creature brings a smile to the faces of young and old. You can watch it from very close up, and the squirrels are happy to be fed even from your hand. If you want to bring them a treat, they enjoy apples and other fruit. They also won't turn down carrots, beetroot, sunflower seeds, barley, oats or walnuts. Please don't throw treats into their burrows, though, as they will find them on their own.
